FAQ – Business Card Printing

What size Business Card do I need?

It’s entirely up to you, however the main and most common Business Card sizes are 90x54mm and 90x55mm. Some clients want a `slimline’ Business Card at 90x40mm or something in between (90x45mm). Its up to the individual preference, however most people do for for 90x54mm or 90x55mm. You can essentially have any size you want, however if it outside these sizes it would attract a guillotine fee of $10 (Mainly because we would need to cut your custom sized cards as its on job, as opposed to cutting them in bulk at the more common sizes.

Should I have my Cards Laminated?

Essentially – Yes. It protect the card and enhances it. It is cheaper not to, however having a laminate will give it a more robust and professional look and feel to stand out against your competitors

Can I write in Pen on a Laminated Card?

Yes and no. A biro or pen will not write on a Gloss Laminate however it WILL on a Matt or Velvet Laminate.
A permanent marker will work on all laminates however it will require time to dry.
Our recommendation is to have 1 side laminated and the reverse unlaminated. A perfect example is a doctors surgery, commonly their business cards are usually laminated 1 side and the reverse is unlaminated to allow for Appointment times and dates to be written.

What sort of Laminate should I have?

Laminate comes in 2 Main types – Gloss and Matt. Matt is by far more popular, it has that smooth, waxy feel that corporates favour. Gloss is Shiny and generally use for bright cards that stand out with vivid colours. In the end, it is ascetic, and up to you – it depends on what feel and look you’d like to go for. You can also have Velvet, which is a newer laminate, which has a soft touch feel to it – some people consider it an Advanced Version of Matt Laminate

What is the difference between Laminate and Celloglaze?

Nothing. Celloglazing is a printers trade term for Laminate.

What does Full Colour mean versus Black-White?

Full Colour. Otherwise known as CMYK printing, means that 4 main colours are used (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and Black) – These colour mixes formulate all Full Colour, or CMYK, printing. Black Only Means just that – single colour black, with no extra colour at all on any given side

What sort of Stock (paper) should I use?

90% of Business Cards are printed on 310gsm Pearl Artboard. It’s a quality stock, and is considered the Industry benchmark when it comes to Business Cards.  If you are looking to get (or even worse, have been offered or quoted !) Business Cards in less than 310gsm beware ! They will be flimsy and unprofessional. Some clients like to take it one step further, and go to 350gsm Heavyweight cards, or even 400gsm Cards. These are very heavy cards and are top of the range.

What does GSM mean?

`GSM’ is an acronym for `Grams per Square Metre’ – basically it tells you the weight of the paper. The higher the gsm, the heavier the paper is.

Do you do specialty stocks?

Yes we can! We offer stable stocks that get a lot of call such as 100% recycled stock – Envirocare, which has a greenish hue to it. 320gsm Linen, which is just that – a textured stock and also 320gsm Box Board, which is a brown, earthy card. People who were after the deleted Kraft stock generally go to the Boxboard option. Aside from that, there are literally hundreds of other specialty stocks out there – if you need it, let us know and we will get you a prompt and competitive price.

Do you do Rounded Corners?

Yes we can! We can round corner 1 – 2 – 3 or all corners of your business card. The corner radius’ we have available are 3mm, 5mm, 6mm and 10mm. 6mm is the most commonly used rounded corner radius. Speak to one of our friendly MVP representatives about Rounded Corners today.

How do I order?

Its easy – either select your specifications on the quote calculator on the website and checkout with your cart, or email us direct – which ever you are most comfortably with.

What happens after I order?

We will then get our pre-press team to set up your Business Card in an online, easy to view proof where you can approve/pay to go to print. When we proof, we will let you know if there are any issues with the Artwork (eg Spot Colours in the Art, issues with Bleed, resolution etc) which will let you know if the design isnt right or not quite OK for print.  That way we know what we are printing and you know what you are getting.

How long does it take to receive my cards?

Normally about 3-5 working days from Art Approval. If you have a heavier order, or if you are in a remote location in Australia, it may take a day longer, but Business Card Printing is generally very quick!

What happens if I need them straight away?

No problem ! We have Same Day Despatch and Next Day despatch.
